Stevo blogs in....

"I Chill therefore I am!"
Stevo
11.13.05
Ah yes, the flag.
Let's not forget the flag.
Customized for the Big Chill, originally by Stevo & Z, it began with just "we need a Chill Coat of Arms". After hot tubbing with cigars and scotch, and UCONN v Syracusa BBall; the Coat of Arms began to take shape. Symbolism is everything. Pool cues, lighthouses, hovering hawks, and of course a bit of Latin thrown in for that eternal scholarly effect. Like everything else in chilldom, this project too languished. But eventually, it got hammered out, designed, and with a cell phone call to the flag maker (while pre-starting the fall off soundings sailboat race)a flag was born!
Alas, not even next day air allowed for the unveiling at Chill VIII (Sept. '04)
Next best gathering for unveiling would have to be the Chill Winter Dinner. Pazzo's. Stevo & Carol arrive early; get owners permission to tack up the flag, and voila. All other patrons extremely jealous.
After much imbibing and good food, Randy gets the assignment to provide flag pole and base.
Now, we can fly the flag.
Article 1: Possession of the flag is determined by the current possessor.
Article 2: Possession must be relinquished to the chill member of possessor's choice at following chill event.
Article 3: Penalty applies for non compliance of articles 1 & 2.

Big Chill, further...
So, the Z checked the website and saw that it was good. (See Gentle Heritage). A call was made to the owner, info was gathered, and shared among the group. Over several emails, phone calls and events where the gang was gathered, a weekend was chosen, and the authorization was given to Z to conclude the deal. And so it was done. A lease was signed, deposits gathered and sent, and the planning for the first Chill weekend began in earnest. Primarily by the womenfolk, as the guys were still working on their 40th birthday party.

Chill Genesis

Christmas, 1995. Or thereabouts. Five couples go out for a holiday dinner. The men have been together for years, as far back as high school for 3, and two college additions. The spouses/girlfriends got the guys in a package deal. After drinks, a great meal (Inn at Chester?), wine and more drinks, discussion wandered over to getting away as a group, maybe to Bermuda. The ladies suggested this, probably Claire, on the premise that the guys couldn't even plan a group 40th birthday memorial, which was already 3 years overdue. (We're still working on it...)
The idea was intriguing (especially after all the wine), but Bermuda seemed aggressive for a first try. So, the task was assigned to consider an alternate, more accessible site. Nobody really believed the idea would go much further than that dinner table. After all, remember the 40th birthday party?
Then an email arrived from Baz to Z suggesting a look-see at a house on Cape Cod.

The Big Chill

OK, I'm diving in. I've created this blog with the intent that some people who know me will use it as a community exchange board, and moreso, to see where theis just goes. I've always intended to write a journal, but never have had the time, or more truthfully, the discipline to do it.
The name of this post is, of course, taken from a movie, which in turn has become the theme that unites my closest group of friends...minus the funeral and surrogate baby-making. More of this will drip through in later posts, no doubt. And I'm going to add them as team members, if I figure out how, and this can truly become "The Chill" blog.
I must admit that I'm not egotistical enough to believe others will pay attention to whatever I put here, but I'm curious enough to give it a try. I've always been interested in new technology, and although blogs are no longer new, creating (or intelligently designing, whichever side of Scopes you land on) one is attractive enough to try. So, I send this out to the ether and will see what comes back. FUSU.
